To the blog, about the book, recounting the creation of the legendary Peaceville Records. The people, the places, the dirty linen.

WARNING! Contains lots of bad language, moderate sex (he’s not boastful), a hint of violence & lashings of very hard drugs…oh, and a tiny Yorkshire Terrier with no teeth!

  1. Hi there!
My name is Mindaugas Lapinskas, I’ve just read the book and wanted to give some feedback, since Peaceville also made a big impact on my life. First things first – the book is fucking great! I’ve read it in a few days with utmost pleasure, such great stories laid out in a simple, friendly way ๐Ÿ™‚ Also very informative, it was a great pleasure to learn about the beginnings of Peaceville and also the period after it merged with MFN and later years. I’ve personally came in contact with Peaceville in 1993 when doing my fanzine Vital Wound (later on Wounded) back in Lithuania. I remember Peaceville was the first label to send the actual CD’s (AT THE GATES “The red in the sky…” and ANATHEMA “Crestfallen”) for reviews, which was a huge thing for me, as they cost a fortune back then. Later on we traded and that’s how I got oroginal GGFH and ANATHEMA T-shirts, which was another huge thing, at that time no one had original T-shirts here ๐Ÿ™‚ But the biggest thing came later in 1993 when you sent a VHS featuring some videos from your bands and with those videos we started our TV show “Tamsos Citadele” (Dark Citadel)… at first it was supposed to be a one-off thing, but we’ve got lots of supportive letters and TV channel offered us to run it regularly, so we did that for another 2,5 years, made over 50 shows (it was on air every second Sunday, on prime time, on the first and biggest commercial TV channel TELE-3), which now would be unthinkable, but back then it was like Wild West and anything went ๐Ÿ™‚ So “TC” became the biggest Metal/Industrial TV show in Lithuania and we regularly featured bands/news from Peaceville, also brought ANATHEMA/SOLTICE to play here in Vilnius in 1994 (filmed the concert and interviews), one of the first big underground metal show! Besides releasing lots of great albums, you also had two my alltime fave bands on your label – AUTOPSY and GGFH, so I really mean it when I say that Peaceville had a huge impact not only on my life, but also on the development of Lithuanian Metal/Industrial scene. Once again thanx a lot for the great book, for finding amazing bands and releasing one of the best albums in history!! I wish you and your wife all the best things in the future!

    Jah bless ๐Ÿ™‚
    Mindaugas Lapinskas

p.s. here’s a link to that first “Tamsos Citadele” show, in case you’re curious ๐Ÿ™‚
